Reflection Essay 1

Reflection Essay 1

Q Reflection 1: On an ethical issue you encountered and what ethical theory you used or should have used. Take an ethical situation from your own personal or professional experience in which you encountered an ethical challenge or had to decide what to do or how to respond. (It could be someone else who had to act, but you were still involved, or you and other persons who had to act. If it is a case involving work or healthcare patients, make tweaks to the names or details, if necessary, to protect confidentiality.) First, explain the situation very briefly. Second, describe what you (and any other key agents) did. What moral theory (theories) do these decisions reflect? Explain. Third, evaluate a how good a decision it was. With you initial study of ethical theories in hand, do you think differently about the case now? (If not, just reinforce why the decision was good from an ethical theory standpoint.) Tips: a) As you can see, this essay lends itself to being organized into three paragraphs. b) Don’t spend a lot of words recounting the scenario: just enough details at the beginning to launch your paper, and then give relevant, specific details from the scenario as you go along in order to illustrate your points.
